Self-interest or self-desires are the sole goal of a human being; this is the only thing human beings are capable of-self-interest.
The above phrase is the Law of Human Nature. All human actions, when properly examined and understood, will prove to be motivated by self-interest alone. This is the driving force of the engine of life of any individual. This is a fact of our nature, and the empirical evidence to show this is overwhelming, as I shall show. This law is as real and as firm as the laws of physics, if not more. The only thing any person is capable of desiring or pursuing as an end in itself is, ultimately, one’s own selfish interest. While some people do desire things other than their own welfare, such as the happiness of other people, the ultimate motivation behind even such desires and actions is when the persons have convinced themselves that such selfless actions would in turn lead to their own happiness.
To put it quite simply, purely benevolent and altruistic desires and actions do not exist. People do appear to be acting unselfishly many times, however this is only true because they have ulterior motives; such people hide behind the interests of others as a means to the promotion of their own selfish interests. This is the case with all-voluntary human actions and desires; this is a matter of fact, which cannot be properly refuted or proven incorrect. Some have attempted to show that this is not true. But the best of the best that have attempted to prove that this law is false have failed miserably. They have found themselves caught up in circular reasoning, in circular logic; they have put forth circular arguments, but failing to provide any empirical evidence what so ever in support of their arguments.
The Law of Human Nature, as I have defined it above, and will explain in details in this essay, is an absolute psychological fact, and not to be confused for an ethical ideal, or for a foundation on ethics. We have Objectivism for that, and Objectivism, in light of this law, is highly complimented and an authority, a guiding light for the enlightenment of humanity.
The Law of Human Nature, when clearly understood, extends to all life forms, not just humans, and being as such, it therefore IS universal selfishness; it is not a coincidence or accident but it is rather an unshakable and unmovable universal law of psychology. Only when this is fully realized and accepted by the psychology community, only then will psychology be able to provide scientific methods for treating mental disorders. Furthermore, only when the intellectuals and philosophers accept this fact of nature, this unmovable law, only then will they be able to realize that just as laws of nature are absolute, so must morals and ethics be absolute.
One of the motives and perhaps the ultimate motive of all voluntary actions is the desire for one’s own pleasure. No matter how much one may wish to deny this fact, every voluntary action is fueled by desires or impulses, which are absolutely selfish in nature. Whenever you act you are always pursuing your own ends in trying to satisfy your own desires or achieve pleasure of sorts. Therefore, it can be said that all humans’ actions are selfish in nature. When you get what you want and desire you will feel pleasure or satisfaction of sorts. In other words, even though you might pursue other things, which you dislike, you will only pursue them as a means to achieve your objective-pleasure of sorts. Anyone who denies this is dishonest at best.
Many people deceive themselves, more often than not, that what they desire is noble or moral or ethical or "for the greater good" etc. However, under critical examination and critical questioning, ultimately, those people are seeking to be congratulated or to be viewed well by others or to enjoy the pleasures of having a good conscience or so they can enjoy the benefits of self-congratulation. People, almost always conceal their true motives, at least in part, even from themselves by camouflaging them behind such terms as "duty" "moral thing to do" or "virtuous" or "it is a noble cause/achievement" etc. For this reason, sadly enough, most people deceive themselves and mislead themselves concerning their own real motives, and then they try to hide from this false reality simply because others do it too, and in the real world, "selfishness" is equated with being evil. This is the result brought upon the world by religion and altruism.
The dangers of this law lies not in that humans do not realize it to be a law of nature, but in denying it, in attempting to hide from this reality simply because they have been brainwashed by altruists and religious doctrines. This is the reason most people act unnaturally and develop psychological disorders; because they try to have a pie in the sky promised by the mystics, while trying to achieve some sort of happiness in this life as well. This self-brainwashing leads to the development of all sorts of neurotics with all sorts of psychological problems. By declaring reason and reality evil, by convincing people that they must fear an invisible deity, the mystics have destroyed the very fabric of the foundation on which morals need to be inscribed upon-the healthy human mind.
Therefore, mysticism and altruistic mentalities determine the morals and ethics of men instead of logic and reason. The neurotics, the product of mysticism, now have a way to satisfy their fears, to justify any actions they perform no matter how cruel or destructive. Behind the cloak of religious authority they can justify anything because religion does not offer concrete moral standards. How can it when religion itself is founded on irrationality? The ethics and morals offered by religion is merely a psychological high, and safety nets to protect the irrational by giving them loopholes to justify their actions, thoughts and desires.
So what do we do now? Where do we go from here? What morals and ethics can be established to guide humanity towards happiness and prosperity? What moral standard is there? Well, to properly address these questions I shall now quote "The Declaration of Individual Rights" put forth by The Illuminati Order.
"The Declaration of Individual Rights by The Illuminati Order
Each individual has natural born rights, which no other person, entity or government of any kind may infringe. The respect and loyalty to these rights is the moral standard of the rational and just human beings. The natural rights of the individual are: 1. The right to life. 2. The right to the pursuit of happiness. 3. The right to own property, intellectual and/or tangible. 4. The right to perform any action needed to ensure preservation/ending of the life of the self without damaging the environment of the planet. The environment belongs to all and endangering it violates the individual rights of others. 5. The right to earn a living through one’s own efforts, mental or physical. 6. The right to live his/her life any way he/she likes without causing physical harm to another individual. 7. The right to defend his/her life and property and family. 8. The rights to have children, ONLY if he/she can guarantee food, shelter, clothing, safety and education for such and provide for any and all medical needs of such. 9. The right to conduct business with others based on mutual and/or contractual agreement. 10. The right to privacy in all forms.
These are the inalienable human rights inherited at birth. All whom do not respect these rights are parasites, and such have forfeited their own right to exist by default."
So What Are Morals?
Morals are the acts to protect and the respect of the rights of the individual. The most basic of the inalienable rights of the individual is the right to life. The right to life means that any individual has the right to exercise any type of action/work or thought to maintain his life and happiness. Each individual holds this right. Anything any person does against the rights of the individual is immoral. Any person(s) or group/entity whom violates the individual rights of another is a criminal, and that includes government. There are only two types of tyrants: The individual who violates the individual rights of another, and the government, which deprives and violates the individual rights of any individual.
The individual is his/her own most sacred and valuable entity; the individual is sovereign over her/his person and property. As you can see, Objectivism does offer mankind a simple solution to guide it towards enlightenment. By using this approach life becomes simpler, less complex and much easier to enjoy. It is religion and its altruistic philosophies, which made mankind miserable and life hard and brute. Therefore, by accepting the individual rights as absolutes, we now have a moral standard, a moral foundation, unshakable and simple; we now have morals which can be not only accepted by all but lived by all whom wish to live a peaceful and moral life. Morals are now simple not complex, and attainable by anyone.
I am sure that many religious leaders and altruists will jump on the bandwagon to criticize my essay, because this exposes them and their teachings to be anti-freedom anti-individualism and Objectivism anti religion in the absolute sense. Objectivism does not leave room for religion and fables, for irrationality and neuroticism. Objectivism shatters the livelihood of the mystics, the religious preachers whom live comfortable lives at the expense of others. They preach charity, not because they believe in charity, but because their very existence depends on handouts. Furthermore, Objectivism also shatters and puts to shame the so-called "Golden Rule" and makes a mockery out of it simply because the "Golden Rule" is a smoke screen and certainly unrealistic and impractical.
According to the "Golden Rule" a person whom becomes paralyzed and in a coma cannot have his/her dying will executed. This is simply because those "adults" or guardians or next of kin might choose to use the "Golden Rule" to not pull the plug on the life support system, even if the victim demanded it in writing in his or her will. The guardians or next of kin may decide to ignore the will based on religious grounds, or their own interpretation of the so-called "Golden Rule." Of course this may not be the best analogy, but I’m sure you can come up with thousands of analogies of your own. I could provide many more, but I think you get the point.
The golden rule implies that one knows best how one would like to be treated and thus, one should treat others how one likes to be treated. Suppose, person A treats person B the way person A wants to be treated. Person B is appalled by the way person A treats person B. Fact is, every person is different, and based on the educational level, character and social status, everyone likes to be treated different than the next person. There is no absolute law that proves or guides what all people like or must like.
Therefore the "Golden Rule" is a bunch of religious mambo jumbo. The Golden Rule, when critically examined turns out to be a stupid and deceptive smoke screen and a tool for the religious leaders to deceive the less developed minds, the weak minded and the uneducated.
